Maya Oval Palace Tablet
11x13 inches round (Tablet)
11x14 inches (Tablet + Stand)
The Oval Palace Tablet found in the ancient Maya city of Palenque reconstructed on shaped black slate. This tablet shows Pacal the Great sitting on a double-headed jaguar throne just before receiving the crown from his mother, Lady Zak-Kuk. Pacal was 12 years old when he ascended to power and ruled for the next 68 years until his death in A.D. 683. Like the majority of monuments in Palenque, the Oval Palace Tablet chronicles the genealogy of the royal family. Future kings were crowned under this elaborate carving.
